ARTIST STATEMENT

When I"m not creating graphic work, I like to focus on being an artist looking to create something in order to get an understanding from it. Whether it's coming to an understanding of medium or even an understanding of using it as a way to work through something mental in life, but I really just love going from mediums to get new understandings for them as well as my creation. I also really enjoy working with the figure as a means of relating to the world. When going from different mediums I like to revisit old artworks of mine and find ways to rework it with the new medium. When approaching works I tend to lean toward trying to go for realism through using contour lines and will follow it up by trying to simplify shadows and other body parts in simple organic shapes. While working on this body of work I was personally over coming depression as well as healing from an ankle injury so a lot of my works in this body of work was focused on overcoming something mental in my life. Also during this body of work I rework some ideas in my works, for example I use my "Ren pez" drawing which was a self portrait I had drawn and I reworked the portrait into other works one in print making to be able to get an understanding of how color could would with it. Then a ceramic place to get an idea of to make my creation into a real object.
